Babble

I can't wait to see this rig with the axles and tires swapped. Please post pics when you do. This could be one of the nicest Scouts ever when it is done. (said over 4 years ago by Beau O'Riley).

That is a badass Binder, I have never seen a Scout with tires over 42," that will be badass. Good luck with the project, I hope to see more. (said over 4 years ago by Rich Nelson).

Forgot to ask...is this future Top Truck Challenge material? That would be great PR for us International guys. (said over 4 years ago by Rich Nelson).

Enter it in TTC -- I will vote for it! This month's issue has one IH nominated for the TTC. (said over 4 years ago by Mike Allegretti).

Any updated pics? I am dying to see this thing swapped out. I am planning to do a similar build on my rig in the future, and would love to see how yours looks. (said over 4 years ago by Rich Nelson).

Good thing you incorporated the step ladder to get in.My scout has a 11" lift and I'm not a fat person, and it is still hard to get in. what are your plans for getting in.(not trying to sound like a ass)the scout is def. awesome!!!! Please keep us informe (said over 4 years ago by dave).

Thanks for the interest guys. She has been torn down for the past 3 years, but I am going to get her put back together over the period of the next couple of weeks as time permits (said over 4 years ago by Kragen).

I will post up some new better pics of that pretty soon here, and I am probably just going to cruise it on the 37's for a little while before I do the swap. (said over 4 years ago by Kragen).

As for the step ladder I will fabricate some type of rock slider that allows easier access, but its really not that bad...you just kind of jump in and out. Thanks again for the comments. (said over 4 years ago by Kragen).

As far as the TTC goes...I am considering entering it eventually, but I am not going to promise anything yet. Being over six feet seems to help getting in an out too. (said over 4 years ago by Kragen).

Hey man, good job on the hard work. I am currently installing a wiring harness and wondered if u had any suggestions or words of wisdom. Its seems like it's gong to be a extremely tedious task. Take care buddy. (said over 4 years ago by Anthony Caldwell).

Anthony, thanks for the compliments. Wiring is my next big task, but it is something I know little about. I have a friend of a friend who is an Electrical Engineer (said over 4 years ago by Kragen).

and he is going to help me wire it up and teach me some stuff at the same time. So I should have some good tips within a couple of weeks. I bought a Painless Wiring universal 12 circuit GM Column kit and I will be using that. I will let you know how it go (said over 4 years ago by Kragen).

Sounds good. Hope it works out for you and keep me posted. (said over 4 years ago by Anthony Caldwell).

It's been hard finding time to work on it but I got a few hours last Sat. and used a 1.25" hole-saw to cut a hole in the firewall to mount the the fuse block, and I routed the wires to the engine, front and rear sections and dash area. (said over 4 years ago by Kragen).

Now I just have to separate them out to where they go, terminate them, make connections, and wrap and mount the harness. I wish I would have welded up all the holes in the firewall when I was doing that stuff since I am not going to use them, so that will (said over 4 years ago by Kragen).

Hi, I'm Ben from Cali. Are you going to shackle reverse this bad ass dude? (said over 4 years ago by Ben Graves).

Yeah, I am planning on a RS when I do the swap, cut and turn D44 HD, Yukon Chromoly Shafts and SuperJoints, 5.13 R&P w/ARB, Warn lockouts, Ruff Stuff diff cover, high steer, and heavily trussed for the front end. (said over 4 years ago by Kragen).

man that is going to to be great. keep posting pics as you take the next step. (said over 3 years ago by Randel ).

Dude, don't wast the time and money on the HD44, with 46" tires and 5.13s, you'll just wish you went to a 60. Take if from someone who'
s been through it, I was eating 44s with 37" tires. (said over 3 years ago by Charlotte).

I spent like $4500 in my 44s, broke something nearly every time out, then switched to ff 14B and Dana 60. Haven't broken anything since. Coulda only spent it once! (said over 3 years ago by Charlotte).

Charlotte, I was going to go to a D60 front with ARB, chromo 35 sp. shafts, Reid/Dedenbear C's & knuclkes, truss, etc...but w/46's that still isn't immune to carnage. (said over 3 years ago by Kragen).

That is why I am selling all my stuff and going to 2.5 ton Rockwells, read the "Future Mods" section for the details. Thanks for the input, I agree with you 100%. (said over 3 years ago by Kragen).

Hey, e-mail me and let me know what you still have left. i'm just starting a build on my '77 scout II and am starting from scratch. ben_johnson7@hotmail.com (said over 3 years ago by Ben Johnson).

Looking forward to seeing your project complete that rig is going to be bitchin'! (said over 3 years ago by Rob ).

Thanks for the comments guys, I will try to keep it up to date. (said over 3 years ago by Kragen).

Thats gonna be one Kick butt scout. Keep up the good work. It'll be a tough truck! (said over 3 years ago by Ugly).

Nice... Rockwells in a Scout. Quite possibly the perfect 4x4! (said over 3 years ago by Christopher Klapp).

Hey, where can I find a pair of used 2.5 ton rockwells like yours, starting my buildup , thanks Mark A (said over 2 years ago by mark apodaca).

Maybe you have done your HW...but a couple of quick things to consider. Rock's have 6.72:1 gearing and they are big, low ground clearance (unless mohawked), and HEAVY, so unless you are going to run 44" tires or larger One Tons will usu. fit the bill. (said over 2 years ago by Kragen).

If you are not going to ever fun your rig on the street then go with pinion brakes they are cheap and easy to set up...and you can flip your hubs in...otherwise wheel brake conversions are very pricey and you have to run the hubs flipped out which give a (said over 2 years ago by Kragen).

WMS of around 80"+ so custom wheels with a large backspace are a necessity if not already for the 6 on 8.75" lug pattern. Custom wheels like Stazworks are nice but pricey. Ouverson Engineering makes hub to convert to the standard 8 on 6.5" 1 Ton lug patte (said over 2 years ago by Kragen).

pattern, but the hubs and brakes are on the order of $4500+ so unless you have a healthy budget thats probably not practical. Those are the biggest issues you need to consider with Rockwells...width, weight, brakes, wheels, etc. (said over 2 years ago by Kragen).

After alot of searching I found mine on Craigslist, they are on eBay, and a couple of companies like Boyce and 100 Dollarman sell them but unless you are close shipping is killer. (said over 2 years ago by Kragen).

When buying Rockwells stay away from the older Timken style with Bendix of Repezza style shafts in the front, the newer u-joint version is the strongest. I know a local guy that has a u-joint set for $1300 if you are interested. (said over 2 years ago by Kragen).

It would be nice to see another Scout on Rock's good luck. I would highly recommend going over to Pirate 4x4 if you are serious, the search button will be your best friend. (said over 2 years ago by Kragen).

You need to check out this link: http://pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=313836&highlight=rockwell+wms (said over 2 years ago by Kragen).

thanks budy, now I really liked your trucks sheetmetal body work, where did you get it done. I have some sheetmetal to replace on my terra. (said over 2 years ago by mark apodaca).

I did the body work, now I'm going to end up cutting the fenders out some too. If you are interested in the Rockwells I don't know where you are located but let me know and I can get you that guys phone number that has a pair in Northern CA if you want. (said over 2 years ago by Kragen).

Sorry at this time not interested in Rockwells, may later I let you know, Hey, if you are a auto body man who can give me some good advice on repair of rust panels, please give me a call. My e-mail is apodaca_tony@hotmail.com (said over 2 years ago by mark apodaca).

What kind of questions did you have? I worked at a body shop for a while, I am no expert but I can probably help you out. (said over 2 years ago by Kragen).

I want to replace the right side end cap on quarter panel what type of welder will take care of this. The tack welds are internal. I hammered it out and caused some bending of the corner braket. (said over 2 years ago by mark apodaca).

Hi there, hows your beast coming along have you added all that good stuff to make it a top truck of the year. PS, Mark A (said about 1 year ago by mark apodaca).
