Restoration

Its a time portal, taking us back to a better time and a better place

Description & Modifiations

1966 Scout Sportop

152 4 cylinder Commanche
4 speed tranny
Dana 44 rear axle
Custom upholstery
Realistic FM Converter
Flowmaster exhaust

The name "Scouch" was coined by my dad who busted a lot of knuckles on the old Scout and decided it was appropriate to combine "Scout" with "Ouch". I have since also gained a hugh appreciation for the "ouch" factor of restoring an IH vehicle. I got the "Scouch" from him on Labor Day 1992 after he trailered it to El Paso from San Antonio so that I could put it on a tow dolly and drag it back to El Centro, CA to begin the resurrection.

When I first got the Scouch, he was pretty "used up" after spending about 12 years with dad on the farm and serving as his primary hunting /fishing and running over and through stuff vehicle. The bonus was that I did have the greenest grass in the neighborhood after washing about 500 pounds of dirt and cow manure out of the the fender wells on my lawn

One of the best memories of having owned/restored the "Scouch" came in about 1996 when I was able to take both my dad and grand-dad to a car show and poker run in the the scout.

Whenever I drive the "Scouch" today I know dad and grand-dad are either sitting in heaven smiling, or better yet riding shotgun to make sure the "Scouch" is still purring along.

Future Modifications

Besides the constant search for a straight passenger side axle for the old two piece dana 44 and a matching IH Logo mirror for the passenger side door, I'd like to rehab and reinstall the add-on a/c unit that was in the Scout when purchased by my dad in the mid 70's. With that addtion, it will be the ultimate Sportop to me, even if the a/c doesn't work.
