Still running and gets you where you need to go.

Description & Modifiations

Turbo diesel, four speed trans, Goodyear MTR 305-70-R17 tires, 4-inch Rough Country and 2-inch shackle lift, original AM radio, front bench seat.

When I bought this rig on e-bay, I thought it was green (see the original pics at the bottom). Turned out to be closer to Monkey-Sh^t (UPS) Brown.

Interior was pea-green/tan cloth, with a front bench. I replaced it with buckets I swapped with a guy from Virginia; ended up recovering all three seats with OEM black vinyl. Added a roll bar and shoulder belts, front bumper with receiver hitch for the slide-in Warn 8274 winch and side-view mirrors from anythingscout.

I had it repainted white, cut out the rust, replaced the body mounts (the doors close much better now), added a gauge cluster, SONY/Kenwood stereo, center console and carpet all around.

Put a hitch-mounted, fold-down spare tire carrier on it.

After all the time, money and new parts, I considered changing the Type of Rig to "Restoration."

Engine

SD633-T Turbo Diesel, runs like a top -- albeit a SLOW top! Sure it burns (and drips) a little oil.

Future Modifications

Words uttered often over the last 2 years: "While I'm at it, I might as well..."

Handling is almost where I want it to be. Steering stabilizer, Straight Steer and shackle braces have eliminated 95% of the wandering issues.

The cold air intake with larger-than-stock turbo inlet tubing makes it go a lot better (I can actually drive it at freeway speeds, now).

Installing new exhaust system with elbow eliminator and two and a half inch straight pipes (Muffler? We don't need no stinking muffler!).

Rig is currently in Michigan awaiting interior transformation. Will post before, during and after photos (said over 3 years ago by Mike Allegretti).

You'll definitely want the A/C in the valley! I like the stance...very nice! (said over 3 years ago by Bryce Newman).

Very nice Traveler. (said over 3 years ago by Jason).

I am in West Hills with a SD33T. My AC is dead. just keep moving! (said over 3 years ago by Franklyn M. Gottbetter).

Looks as though I am nixing the A/C. Work is underway on the rest. (said over 3 years ago by Mike Allegretti).

That sucker's gonna look righteous when she's all done. It'll be slow as hell, but righteous nonetheless

(said over 2 years ago by Ron Mexico).

Nice work on the traveler, I love the long WB Scouts, those 17's with the 305's and the life combo look really nice on there. (said over 2 years ago by Rich Nelson).

(Oops, I meant lift) (said over 2 years ago by Rich Nelson).

Final touches are going on as we speak. Look back for new pics soon! (said over 2 years ago by Mike Allegretti).

80 mph is going to be hard to come by... (said over 2 years ago by Ron Mexico).

She is coming along nicely...can't wait to see the finished product. (said over 2 years ago by Ron Mexico).

WOW -- that white with black accents is perfect. Just the right amount of chrome too -- none! (said over 2 years ago by Ron Mexico).

I'm liking those anything scout mirrors ... did you look at various options when replacing the little stock ones? I have the Orange Traveler ragtop you've commented on. (said over 2 years ago by Shawn).

That thing is nicer now than the day it rolled off the Fort Wayne assmebly line! (said over 2 years ago by Ron Mexico).

Mike...did the bumper get out there? Can't wait to see pics of it on this Scout. Looks great! (said over 2 years ago by Sean Barber).

Dude, this thing has 638 votes for it. There must be a lot of people viewing it.

(said over 2 years ago by Ron Mexico).

638??? I can't see how many votes it has - I just watch it go up and down periodically. Thanks for your interest! (said over 2 years ago by Mike Allegretti).

Oops - duplicated my entry... (said over 2 years ago by Mike Allegretti).

848 now -- wow! (said over 2 years ago by Ron Mexico).

1083+ votes now. Some DB must be voting it down to 1) increase the number of votes by that many and 2) lower the rating to 3.2 (said over 2 years ago by Ron Mexico).

WTF, if going on here? This rig deserves to be near the top, I agree with Mexico evaluation, some people are just plain pathetic. (said over 2 years ago by Rich Nelson).

Hey Rich and Ron, thanks! I can't drive this rig anywhere without getting a bunch compliments and inquiries. Once the weather cools back down, I'll have her out every day again. If you're in the San Fernando Valley, keep an eye out for us. (said over 2 years ago by Mike Allegretti).

Wow that is one fine machine! I have a '68 "TRUSTEE" this site since 1977 and recently acquired a '61, yet with all these awesome scout II's I'm trying to buy a scout II from a neighbor it's been sitting for years. (said over 2 years ago by Rob Gojkovich).

Get your hands on neighbor's rig and git 'er done. (said over 2 years ago by Ron Mexico).

My buddy welded brackets on the shackles and we braced it a stock brace between them. Improved the wandering problem immensely. Cold air intake is next. (said about 1 year ago by Mike Allegretti).

The Traveler is gorgeous!!! I am a little curious about the paint, could you give details on that? (said about 1 year ago by Alan Hudson).

Really nice, deserves to be rated way higher! Did you fabricate that center console? (said about 1 year ago by Bobby Abbott).

Most of the work (including the console base) was done by my cousin Tom, of stadersclassiccars.com. The console itself is an inexpensive generic from JC Whitney catalog.
(said about 1 year ago by Mike Allegretti).

The paint is Ford Oxford White Clearcoat (color code Z1). (said about 1 year ago by Mike Allegretti).

Also, I was wondering, those are some nice wheels? What size are the wheels and tires? (said about 1 year ago by Alan Hudson).

The tires are 305/70R17. I'm not sure who makes the wheels that are pictured, but I added a spare that is a 17X9 5-5.5 American Eagle 187 Polished Aluminum that matches them. (said about 1 year ago by Mike Allegretti).

The cold air intake makes a big difference in engine performance, as well (said about 1 year ago by Mike Allegretti).

I LOVE IT!! I think it takes up too much room in your garage and I am here to help :) (said about 1 year ago by Terri LaMaina).
