Still running and gets you where you need to go.
Pretty much original. I bought it in 04 in Napa CA from a short term interim owner, it was a Colorado ranch truck with 60,000 miles. Auto, A/C, Cruise - I guess that's fully loaded for IH
Custom soft top, 2" lift, bikini top & Baja rims
Very few remaining up here in the Great White North - always get comments though how you just couldn't stop them ... until they rusted into the earth. My brother-in-law has had a '79 Scout II since '81 & my Dad had an early '70's IH pick-up (mustard yellow).
It is a daily driver until November, then it goes away until the end of March.
345ci, Holly 4b, w/ rebuilt 727 auto trans, dual stainless exhaust (Flowmasters)
Engine is totally original - rebuilt trany in 07
Rhino lining (or LineX) it & replace carpets .... or not. Rebuild the carb, or switch it out.

Hey Shawn, This Scout is great. Did it have brown carpet in it? I think I know this Scout.... maybe not, but it is very sweet. I love it with the soft top. That 2" kit would look perfect on there too. Healthy stock look. Nice job! (said over 2 years ago by Sean Barber).
Hey Sean - the carpet is rusty orangey brown. It was in Napa for about 6 months (early 04)before I bought it and shipped it to Ontario Canada (said over 2 years ago by Shawn).
i must second that.the soft top looks great. (said over 2 years ago by Darren Rule).
I think it will look beter in my drive way, can you drop it off? HaHa! I miss my old Traveler, and hope I can find another. Nice work she looks sharp. I love the Traveler's. Enjoy it! (said over 2 years ago by Chad Maile).
Great looking truck!!! Did you build this softop yourself or have a local boat/auto upholstery shop do it for you? I have a 1980 traveler and am planning on tackling the custom soft top issue for it. Any advice? (said over 2 years ago by Jeremy).
Hey J, My brother-in-law (another Scout owner) bent 3/4" electrical conduit (x2) for the frame ribs, used the standard windshield extrusion for a Scout II soft top, and used aluminium angles for side rails. I dropped it in to a boat/car soft top shop for (said over 2 years ago by Shawn).
the custom canvas work. Spend the extra $ on the canvas style fabric. It's durable and easier to deal with on the up/down. I can email detailed photos if you'd like. (said over 2 years ago by Shawn).
I concur - that soft top is way cool. It is probably easier than removing/replacing the fiberglas top, a well. I may want to take you up on your photos for the New Green Weinie (said over 2 years ago by Mike Allegretti).
Shawn - the anythingscout mirrors come in black or chrome, and seem to be the right size for the Scout IIs. The stock mirrors sell for up to $80 each. I have seen 80's era GM mirrors on a lot of rigs, but they tend to angle "up" when mounted on a Scout (said about 1 year ago by Mike Allegretti).
...when mounted on a Scout II. For the price and the look, I think the anythingscout mirrors look and work best. (said about 1 year ago by Mike Allegretti).
Nice soft top - would be interested in getting the download on how you did it. I'm looking to do something similar to a '76 traveler. not sure how to contact directly? thanks. (said about 1 year ago by Dustin).
I also like the soft top and would be interested in finding out more about how you did and getting some more detailed pictures. I am on the Binderplanet under my name. (said about 1 year ago by Mark).
love the soft top and want one for my new traveler...fantastic!

hi. love your traveler. just got one myself and looking into a soft top. was wondering if your additional photos could make it easier for me to build it. i really appreciate your help. also not sure how to contact you directly but in case you read this y (said about 1 year ago by alexander heil).
Sorry for not posting earlier guys, I guess I was MIA. In terms of the top, I'll take some shots of the framing. A boat guy did the canvas based on the frame & the ScoutII top. (said 10 months ago by Shawn).
Lads, email me at Shawn_philpott@rogers.com if you'd like more photos of the top. Mike, You're right, I bought the GM mirrors and have to reprofile them in order to get them level (said 10 months ago by Shawn).
