Description & Modifiations

I traded this Scout for a Sig Saur .45 and some old Bose speakers and drove it approx 90 miles to home. It has been converted to Propane by the previous owner and runs pretty stinking good. It has an accessory hose that hooks up to a BBQ. Talk about your ultimate tailgate party vehicle! I did find out today that I either have a cracked exhaust manifold or I need new gaskets. The bearings need to be repacked and the reverse lights don't work currently but pretty much everything else does. The only major rust is on the tailgate which is pretty surprising considering that it's a Utah Scout. I had a 1963 80 a while back and it was a rust bucket!

Oh, and it came with the original owners manual and it's in great shape!

The bullet hole stickers are coming off VERY soon!

Engine

266 V8.

Future Modifications

After fixing the exhaust manifold, repacking the bearings, and fixing the reverse lights I am going to give it a spring over lift, and a new paint job. I also want to redo all the seals around the doors, frame, and cab. The tailgate has some bad rust. I'd like to find one in better shape or fix the current one. All the tailgates I have found online have been pretty pricey.

11.30.09 **Update - I have another tailgate coming!! I found it in Oregon for $50.00!! Only a tiny bit of surface rust. I couldn't believe it. All others I found online were $250.00 plus! I have family about 26 miles from the tailgate so they are going to pick it up and strap it to their roof rack when they drive down to Utah for the holidays. I am going to post pics of the new tailgate.

I am also buying a brand new wiring harness (with a new fuse box)from the same guy for $50.00. I figured for the price, why not?

Eventually the entire body will be this same color. (Maybe)

I plan on painting the rest of the Scout this same color.

Here it is with the top off. I am going to paint the roll bar flat black. The box in the back covers the propane tank and also creates a secure storage for any valuables.

Painted wheels and bumpers

painted the wheels and bumpers black. Someday when I have more $$ I'll actually buy new black wheels and black bumpers but for now $3.00 in paint did the job. :)

Babble

Great purchase looking to seeing your project finished. I couldn't allow a fellow '68 to be at the bottom. (said 9 months ago by Rob Gojkovich).

Hey thanks Rob. I appreciate that. (said 9 months ago by Danny Driggs).

This is a nice rig man. I would really like to see this scout when you are finished with it! (said 9 months ago by Jovan).

Danny, don't let anyone talk you out of that 266 that is one under rated motor. Mine has tons of power, damn dependable and gets about 13 plus miles mpg in the city!! (said 7 months ago by Rob Gojkovich).

Danny, Any outfit that makes rag tops can fabricate a bikini top for you. Also the half cab built for the 80 with sliding windows does not work well for the 800 with roll up windows in case you were not aware of that. Are you planning on a better roll bar (said 4 months ago by Rob Gojkovich).

Rob, I bought a truck tanue (sp) top from a friend for $20 and I am going to have a soft top fabricated from it.
I was unaware of the issue of the window problem. I guess I was more so unaware of the fact that they didn't make thoe half cabs for the 800 (said 3 months ago by Danny Driggs).

As far as the roll bar goes. YES. The current one is WEAK. I found a better one in an 800 in a local junk yard. If I can get it out of it I am going to get it and use it. (said 3 months ago by Danny Driggs).

There is a half cab for the roll up window doors also, just make sure you get the right one. My 80 has the half cab and the doors has sliding windows. (said 3 months ago by Rob Gojkovich).

Thanks. I will keep my eyes open for that. I found a guy locally that is selling a 1962 Scout 80 for $800. It has soft top with it. If my wife will let me I will buy the whole thing. If not I am going to make an offer on the soft top. (said 3 months ago by Danny Driggs).

Danny, if that 80 is at all decent snag that sucker. Of course offer a lot less. Unless your wife was raised on a ranch she's probably going to need some real smooth talking and convincing. (said 3 months ago by Rob Gojkovich).

That 80 was BEAUTIFUL! Surface rust only! Came with a manual, wench, brand new soft top, new dual exhaust but someome beat me to it!! It was in better shape rust wise than my 800 and mine is in pretty decent shape. It has Chevy 315 in it but it wasn't run (said 3 months ago by Danny Driggs).

ning. It had to have been an Arizona Scout or some other dry state. Some lucky guy got a great deal! (said 3 months ago by Danny Driggs).
