Barn Find

This suckers been sitting for a while.

Description & Modifiations

This is one that my dad bought brand new off the show room floor in 1966. it sat out in a field for the last ten years and was used occasionally to pull tree stumps or haul dirt. He offered it up to me. We pulled the body of the frame and did some major rust repairs. The lift is a spring over conversion. I had to roll the differential and lengthen the drive lines to make it work. Check out the before and after pics. Also you can see some of the progress pics

Engine

IH Comanche 152

Future Modifications

Hey nice Scout. You make the lift yourself? Looks like your a wildland firefighter? (said over 2 years ago by Matt ).

Thanks. the lift is a simple spring over axle conversion. I had to lengthen the drive shafts and roll the front diff to make it work. (said over 2 years ago by Jim Southwick).

great vehicle. what kind of tires and wheels?? Want to do the same to my 62? (said over 2 years ago by brian mccusker).

Tires are 33x12.5x15. Wheels are 10x15 with 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern by Cragar (said over 2 years ago by Jim Southwick).

Nice rig you did it right. I've got the same black stripe "TRUSTEE" on this site and also got my scout from my dad. (said over 2 years ago by Rob Gojkovich).

Put a rag top on it. (said over 2 years ago by Rob Gojkovich).

Sorry to keep asking but in order to use the Cragers and tires, did you have to change axles or modify or did those specs fit the originals...thanks a ton!!! Love the vehicle, rag top would be awesome on it! (said over 2 years ago by brian mccusker).

I used the stock axles. The 5 on 5.5 is the stock pattern. I bought the wheels from Summit Racing, they have a great selection for a decent price (said over 2 years ago by Jim Southwick).

Jim, what did you use to mount the tire on the back of the vehicle, looks great! (said over 2 years ago by brian mccusker).

The tire rack is the one that came with when it was purchased in 1966. When I get a chance, I will post a close up picture of it. Shouldn't be too tough to replicate. (said over 2 years ago by Jim Southwick).

would love to see that tire rack, thanks Jim! (said over 2 years ago by brian mccusker).

Excelent job with this, look forward to more pics, very well done......"IcyMoon" (said about 1 year ago by Joseph C. Archuleta).

Sweeeeeet!!!! (said about 1 year ago by Mike).

I have a 70 800 and i am trying to lift it retaining the stock axles so i am really interested in how you did this if i could pick your brain?
