Description & Modifiations

1968 Scout 800, 266 V8 with 4 speed manual transmission, dana 30 in front and 44 in rear. What's great is that besides running well all the little things function such as the wipers, windshield washer, lighter, flashers, left/right fuel tank indicator switch, map light, and the original horn. This scout has been in the family since 1972 and I took it over in 1977 in high school. The oldest picture is from 1979 just before it's makeover in the 1980 photo in the snow. After some investment it runs great. Not shown is the wench with power take off. You don't see many Scouts around so this site is great to look at. I went to college in Phoenix (1978-1979) and did some off roading on the out skirts of town. I drove this scout everywhere in the 70's and 80's to the coast for diving, to the Sierras for off roading, hunting, and just some great cruisin' around with the top off and wind in the hair. In the 90's till 1995 when I stopped driving it I mainly used it for an additional work vehicle. Now that the scouts on the road again (2009) I need to make new memories with the family. I've gone to several I.H. events over the past few years it's cool to see not only all the different scouts, but the pickups, travelalls, firetrucks, tractors, etc.

Engine

266 V8 I.H. only all the way!

Future Modifications

Repaint and get new wheels and do some interior work. DONE (2011) The paint color is 2002 Corvette Atomic Orange.

Righteous Rig! I need to see how your hoist works for the top. (said over 3 years ago by Mike Allegretti).

I want to see some more pictures if u got any. (said over 3 years ago by Jovan).

A definitely 5 star scout man! (said over 3 years ago by Jovan).

Mike my plan is to use a hoist system, but currently it takes two dummies to lift it off hooks and set it in to place. Ron which is your rig? (said over 3 years ago by Rob ).

Nice scout man! Really love old trucks like these and Bronco's! Have a Bronco and Looking for a Scout to restore! Nice truck I am jealous.
(said over 3 years ago by Robert).

Hey, if you get new wheels I'll take yours lol. (said over 3 years ago by Danny Driggs).

I'll give you a 5 star. Good job on the upkeep, looks mint from the pics. (said over 3 years ago by Ugly).

Thanks Ugly, good luck on the rust wars in Hawaii. (said over 3 years ago by Rob ).

Quick question; where did you get the soft top? I have the hardtop but would prefer a full soft top. (said over 3 years ago by Fred Jenkins).

Fred I got my top over 30 years ago from Kay-Line, but try super scout @ 937-525-0000. (said over 3 years ago by Rob ).

Thats a good lookin Scout you got there!! (said over 3 years ago by Jacob Walker).

Hi Rob! Great Scout... I have been wanting to respond to you for some time but work too much! It would be fun to get some sort of Scout group together in the Sacramento area... Let me know your thoughts. (said over 3 years ago by Staci Noblitt).

Very nice! I think it's great that it's been in the family for years. I plan on painting mine with the same scheme but different colors.

Weekend Warrior - Scout 80 (said over 3 years ago by Eric).

Rob. I am going to steal your paint scheme too. I think it looks awesome! (said over 2 years ago by Danny Driggs).

I like my paint scheme also, just not the blah beige. Also like the letters painted and along with the compliments younger people ask who makes International Scout? (said over 2 years ago by Rob ).

I agree with every thing said above. I like the soft top too, but it would cost as much as I paid for the truck! I got caught in the rain today though. Maybe it would be worth it after all... (said over 2 years ago by Doc G).

Rob nice rig.
I just started mine last week.
so far i've put on about 250 miles.
Its running great. check it out

Hey Rob,
Beautiful ride. I have a 69 800a and looking for a similar center console (buying or building). Can you let me know your brand or any suggestions if you built it yourself.

Thanks,
John (said over 2 years ago by John).

John, built the console myself with a key lock storage box and Ford Expedition cup holders. I used a spare ash tray knob for the door. I could fax you some drawings if you want. Which is your rig? (said over 2 years ago by Rob ).

Thanks, Rob. Drawings would be great. Here's my fax: 310.206.8770. I'm assuming you used steel. I'm also using this source as a reference for a full console build if I go this route (http://www.fullsizebronco.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-88564.html). H (said over 2 years ago by John).

Here's some pics of the scout I'm working with: http://www.ihonlynorth.com/forums/ih-vehicles-sale/4587-1969-scout-800a.html (said over 2 years ago by John).

Rob, Looking good! I am looking into mounting my spare tire inside also. I hate covering up such a beautiful tailgate. In my opinion the changed tailgate is one of the major downsides to the Scout II. At least for me. (said over 2 years ago by Danny Driggs).

Danny, your absolutely right about the tailgate. The Scout II actually has a much more modern look although I think International should have kept some sort of embossed tail gate like the other truck companies did.

(said over 2 years ago by Rob ).

Rob, I'm digging the rig. I live in your area. Do you know of any Scout clubs nearby? Thanks for your time.
(said over 2 years ago by Bo Ahlgren).

Rob...Awsome looking 800...just joined will be adding mine soon! (said over 2 years ago by Gordon Thompson).

Thanks Gordon and let me know when your on line. My scout is getting a make over (April 2011). (said over 2 years ago by Rob ).

Rob...I've got mine online now. You can find it under "70 Trout Scout". Keep us all posted on the work of the Trustee! (said over 2 years ago by Gordon Thompson).

Hi Rob (Staci here) hope it is okay for me to give you a call in the next couple of weeks? I am finally finding some time to do some stuff the to the 800B and would like to pick your brain if that is okay with you? Staci (said over 2 years ago by Staci Noblitt).

Staci, definitely call. I'm getting my Scout back this week May 19th. You should plan on the Sierra Fall Rallye this year, it's the 50th anniversary of the first scout. (said over 2 years ago by Rob ).

Rob, the new paint on the Trustee is nails. REally changed the look...fantastic! (said about 1 year ago by Gordon Thompson).

WOW...I am honored looking at your pics. Would love to have my 800 anywhere near yours some day. Good job, lots of work and love. Gives me insperation! (said about 1 year ago by Matt ).

Thanks Matt. It definitely gets a lot more compliments and attention. Feels good! Which is yours? (said about 1 year ago by Rob ).

nice 800 for sure, nice new paint job too.

I see you posted on my babble 2 years ago :-o
(said about 1 year ago by Craig Ervin).

Hey Rob, your Scout is probably one of the nicest and cleanest I've seen!!! I'm hoping to get mine there one day... Thanks for the comment on my "The Fun Truck". (said about 1 year ago by Daryl Allen).

Hey Rob I am just starting on my scout and was wondering is yours at stock height or is there a lift kit in there I wanted mine to be about the same height. (said about 1 year ago by Alex).

Alex, it's about 2" higher than stock with shackles I bought from IHONLYNORTH so I just need to put some 33" tires on it. Which is your rig? (said about 1 year ago by Rob ).

I dont have any pics yet and it is currently frozen in the ground at a family friends farm i just recently found out who owned it and got it from them for free! it is either a 800 or 80 im not sure but ive wanted it since i saw it about 12 years ago. (said about 1 year ago by Alex).

Alex, basically the 80's were built from 1965 and earlier and the 800's 1965 through 1969 then Scout came out with 800A and 800B. The biggest difference between the two are the dash, the 80's have a fold down windshield, tailgate with cables, no hood embl (said about 1 year ago by Rob ).

emblem and the early models have sliding windows and a IH embossed on the tailgate. I have a '61 also. (said about 1 year ago by Rob ).

Rob...the Trustee turned out great...love the paint! (said 10 months ago by Gordon Thompson).

It turned out so nice. I really envy you. I would be afraid to wheel with it now because its so nice. I envy the fact that all your indicators work as none of mine do. You did a really good job. (said 7 months ago by william collier).

Rob, Check out Little Green scout under 80s. I posted some neew picks. I would like to know what you think...
I love the paint on yours! (said 6 months ago by Doc G).
