GETTING AIR OUT OF THE LINE AFTER NEW BRAKES
Not in too bad of shape for being near salt water and for original parts. (said 7 months ago by Christopher Herman).
We need some pics with the top off. And lose the roof, too!
Is that Topanga Canyon??? (said 7 months ago by Ron Mexico).
That is what a Scout should be used for! (said 7 months ago by Eric).
great scout (said 7 months ago by josh kirk).
The ocean salt water air does a number for sure. I'm always open to suggestions and appreciate the ideas. Unbolting the top would mean cutting the original seal. I have pictures of it in the 80's somewhere. We were down in Mexico with my Dad. It was imm (said 7 months ago by Cindy).
I used to live in New Jersey, my 1st Scout took a beating from the salt. Best thing is to spray the underbody with undercoating. If u can afford it--use spray-on bedliner. (said 7 months ago by Christopher Herman).
thinking my scout needs a new rack and pinion. gets harder to control when the tires are low and in this case at higher speeds (top speed 70) it's getting harder to keep it steady (said 6 months ago by Cindy).
with the steering column (said 6 months ago by Cindy).
You may need a frame brace as well - it helps keep you tracking straight. They are cheap, easy to find and install. Anything scout sells them for $85.00 - I have one on my scout. (said 6 months ago by Eric Reid).
That "Straight Steer" worked really well on mine, it was very difficult going down the road before, but now its a pleasure. (said 6 months ago by Eric).
the steering wheel has to be turned back and forth in order to keep it straight (said 6 months ago by Cindy).
I think your right - it sounds like you have a lot of "wheel play" and should have that looked at. (said 6 months ago by Eric Reid).
It's manageable except at higher speeds or when I open the vent while driving. I love my Scout. Yes I will dump more money into Tommy! You are too much fun to drive! I put a call into my mechanic (said 6 months ago by Cindy).
You have one on retainer? (said 6 months ago by Eric).
You really should consider the "Straight Steer", it is inexpensive, easy to put in...and it works wonders! I was amazed how well it worked, it drives like a normal truck now. (said 6 months ago by Eric).
Cool Scout in a great location, check out my Mint Green Scout. I installed Straight Steer and it helped alot. Easy to install just 4-bolts. I had front U-joints replaced as well, had a shap pull to the left. Take Care, Mike
(said 6 months ago by Michael Willard).
yes my mechanic is great. John at Karol's General Garage in Glendale, CA is a Scout sanctuary (said 6 months ago by Cindy).
i know this might sound so simple but check your tires and alignment, I know that its happened at speed it gets worse, check the way the tread is wearing...might tires as well (said 6 months ago by james).
Replaced the steering coupler at www.karolsgarage.com and they tightened the loose gearbox which fixed the wandering steering situation! Definitely check the oil and tires on a regular basis! Rockin down the highway again (said 6 months ago by Cindy).
Cindy thanks for telling me about the website. We got stuck at a red light not to long ago in silverlake. Always a pleasure to run into fellow scouts in traffic. (said 6 months ago by Jason).
Definitely! (said 5 months ago by Cindy).
Nice to see a young lady cruisin' in a scout. My scout "TRUSTEE" was sitting for 14 years and my wife encouraged me to get it on the road. Now my 19 year old daughter loves to drive it. (said 4 months ago by Rob Gojkovich).
Ours sat too for many many years by the ocean at my dads collecting rust. I begged Daddy for the Scout and he said it wasn't reliable enough and didn't want me to get stranded somewhere. I think he just wanted to keep the Scout. I embrace the Scout in all (said 4 months ago by Cindy).
Break the seal and take the top off it's a whole different ride especially down at the beaches. (said 4 months ago by Rob Gojkovich).
That is way cool, don't see many chicks into Scouts...my old lady still doesn't get it (well its kind of an obsession for me), but anyhow someone is or will be lucky guy! (said 4 months ago by Rich Nelson).
I put an old pic from the 8o's of the scout in mint as a profile pic...funny it's pushed the Scout into the 3.6 catagory like a tropical storm (said 3 months ago by Cindy).
Looks great. Have you looked at TOUGH GIRL? (said 2 months ago by Robert ).
A scout and a girl.....nothing better....keep working it, you'll get there...was that an 8 track by the way? (said 17 days ago by Joseph C. Archuleta).

Hot lil darling in a Scout, can't beat that!!! (said 7 months ago by Bobby Abbott).
